How to use Ear Trainer
Ear Trainer sharpens your relative pitch with two trainers. Use the
Interval Trainer / Chord Trainer
buttons under the title to switch — each keeps its own settings and
accuracy.
How a round works
Play — hear the interval or chord.
Listen — use Replay as often as you like.
Guess — tap an answer.
See the staff — the notes are revealed in notation, and you’re told if you were right.
Next — move on to a fresh question.
Interval Trainer
Ascending — the lower note plays first, then the higher one.
Descending — the higher note first, then the lower.
Harmonic — both notes sound at the same time.
The Intervals setting chooses Common
(the seven most useful intervals) or All (every
interval within an octave); the Direction toggles pick
which of the three play — at least one stays on.
Chord Trainer
A chord plays; name its quality (and, optionally, its inversion).
Style — Classical,
Jazz, or Pop; each offers a
different set of chord qualities.
Extensions — how far chords stack:
Triads, +7ths,
+9ths, or +13ths. Together with
Style this decides which chords appear.
Voicing — how the chord is arranged in sound:
Closed (compact), SATB (four-part
chorale), Piano (two hands), and
Jazzy / Jazzier (spread jazz
voicings). The staff always shows the chord in tidy close position.
Playback — Block (all notes at
once) and/or Arpeggio (one at a time, low to high).
Identify inversion — adds a second row
(Root / 1st / 2nd / 3rd) asking which note is in the
bass. Available with the Closed voicing only — the
spread voicings make inversions impossible to hear. Pick a quality
and an inversion; both must match.

Your accuracy
Each trainer tracks overall accuracy plus a per-answer breakdown, saved
in this browser so it survives reloads. Reset Stats
clears that trainer’s history.
